THE owners of one of Queensland’s renowned master planned communities are set to embark on a visionary $200 million residential precinct at Pelican Waters on the Sunshine Coast.

The Henzell family, four generations of which have helped define the urban shape of Caloundra since the 1930s, will tomorrow lodge a development application with Sunshine Coast Council to deliver 226 luxury residences to The Island, an exclusive enclave located in the heart of Pelican Waters.

The development, to be known as The Cove, will be undertaken in four stages and involve a variety of residential options from apartments to townhouses.

The Cove will build on the masterplan for Pelican Waters which over three decades has established itself as a suburb in its own right on the Sunshine Coast.

It will be one of the largest private developments on the Sunshine Coast and provide hundreds of jobs over the next decade.

The first stage, including 36 luxury residences and 16 terrace homes, is expected to be launched in coming months subject to council approval.

A display is being constructed and will be open mid-year to showcase the diverse mix of luxury residential options that will make up the precinct.

The suburb’s lifestyle appeal has been bolstered by the $20 million Pelican Waters Town Centre and Marina currently taking shape adjacent to The Island precinct.

Part of the masterplan before council includes a high-end retail, café and restaurant precinct to include a fresh food grocer.

As a pioneer of canal estates on the Sunshine Coast, the Henzell family, headed by father-and-son team Roy and McLean Henzell, is well known for a visionary approach to lifestyle developments.

McLean Henzell said the plans for The Island are a direct response to growing demand for higher-density living in one of south-east Queensland’s major growth hotspots.

“Our vision is to provide a more diverse offering at Pelican Waters that will cater to this sector of the market,” said McLean Henzell.

“We’ve responded to that in a way that we believe builds on our legacy of capturing the essence of Sunshine Coast living and lays the foundations for Pelican Waters as a place to live, work and play.

“As a family, we are proud of what we have achieved so far, and we are especially excited by the next chapter of the Pelican Waters journey.

“We are determined to create a destination for owner occupiers that has all the trappings of resort-styled living.”

Pelican Waters was established by the Henzell and Ford families in 1989 on land that the families have owned since 1946.

The families have developed the Pelican Waters Golf Course, collaborating with Australian professional golfer Greg Norman as designer of the 18-hole golf course.

Other projects in the Henzell family’s portfolio include the Henzell Plaza building in Caloundra’s CBD, established in 1972, and the $15 million Carlyle Terraces residential development in the Pelican Waters precinct.

Much of the land developed in Caloundra today has been owned or transacted by the Henzell family, making their commitment to the region one which is unparalleled.

The latest large-scale project, the Pelican Waters Town Centre and Marina which will define a new lifestyle hub within the master planned community, has been under construction since 2018 and is due for completion in 2022.
